Gurls Talk: Adwoa Aboah

Industry City in Brooklyn hosted Girls Talk in collaboration with Coach and Teen Vogue.

Gurls Talk: The main face behind this organization is model Adwoa Aboah. Gurls Talk is a platform for women to have a voice in just about any topic. Main subjects of the New York event were mental health, sexuality, and body image acceptance.

Adwoa is currently the face of Burberry, and has graced her presence across many top magazines from Vanity fair to Vogue.

Gurls Talk launched its first event last year in London, as this is where Adwoa is originally from. It was great to see the event have the opportunity to grow into the states. The room was decorated with amazing quilted couches, pink balloons galore, various activity stations, and a flower power purple cushion oasis. Some of the speakers included: Holly Gore, Melody Ehsani, Mariah Idrissi, Mari Malek, Janaya Khan, Paloma Elsesser, Emilia Ortiz, Tilly Lawless, iO Tillett Wright,and Professor Green.

Overall the day was really eye opening. What really stood out to me was Tillet speaking to not trying to change anyone’s mind, but instead open your own. New York is filled with so many different individuals, this is a state where you cannot be close minded.
