Asking someone if they got their lips done is almost as cringe-worthy as asking someone if they are expecting. I don’t see why! A little lip filler accusation is nothing compared to accidentally calling someone fat.
Unless you can go into hiding for 3-4 days, your lips will be slightly swollen and you can still see the little spots where the injections went in. Recovery will depend on the person and how much you got injected.
Let’s take a step back and answer who, what, where, when, and why?
I’ve always had a naturally large bottom lip, but never felt that my upper lip was proportional.
Hate to break it to ya ladies, but even if you constantly coat your lips in products that say they are quote on quote “plumping” your lips are not going to grow. That tingling sensation? Is typically cinnamon flavored, and this is all just a TEMPORARY reaction that causes slight swelling. This is the same scenario for double chins. Those Korean chin wraps and Neck and Chin maks by Dr. Jart, are not going to magically melt away your chin flub. You are going to need Kybella treatment or even plastic surgery.
So in my mind, it made more sense to stop buying hundreds of dollars worth of lip plumping products over the years with them being $20-$50+ a piece, and just save for the real deal. Fillers can cost you anywhere from $400-$1,000 depending on the type of filler, credibility of the spa, and city that you live in. But of course, if you are not committed mentally to fully changing your appearance, stick to the plumpers and lip liners! Below are some of my favorites:
Three types of Juvederm are Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra, and Juvederm Ultra Plus. The ultra and ultra plus versions are not for your lips, they are for fine lines and wrinkles on your face. For lip fillers, there is Juvederm and Restylane. The main difference between the two is that you get what you pay for.
-Juvederm: More expensive, see results faster, lasts for at least a year
-Restylane: Less expensive, results take a few extra days to show, and this will last up to 10 months
I went to Manhattan Laser Spa to get my procedure done. It was a very clean spa and an easy location to get to on East 34th street. My esthetician had, of course, tried almost every procedure on herself. She told me that is her motto, she will not recommend anything until she has tried it for herself. Let me tell you, she was beautiful and knows what she is doing.
I had watched some Youtube videos on procedures before making my appointment and noticed that a handful of people got numbing cream before the injection. The esthetician told me that there would be no numbing cream due to the fact that there is a subtle amount of numbing cream in the Juvederm itself. *Bring makeup wipes or some extra concealer because you will most likely tear up a little. Watery mascara and swollen lips isn’t a great look. I had 1 syringe of Juvederm injected into my top lip, nothing in the bottom. If you have really thin lips and want some real umph I would recommend getting 2 syringes, one for the top and one for the bottom. I am sure that the Bierman’s have gotten 3 or 4 syringes in their lips to get that full of a look.
I also got the Botox lip flip. See an article on it here.
The esthetician recommended it, I had never heard of it before. This “lip flip” will show in 4-5 days after the injection, and is done at the top curves of your upper lips to help get that perfect shape. It flips your lip up just slightly. It was about $40 extra for the 4 pokes of it. I loved it.
Before: In the black Jacket
After: In the grey jacket
Overall this procedure was an easy experience with minimal recovery. I did not need ice or Advil after, the skin was just a little tender. Comment with any questions!
