I knew that I didn’t want to go into store management after working retail for a few years. But, after having a buying internship with Kohl’s I questioned if this was something that I still wanted to pursue. I honestly started to apply to a wide variety of jobs when I was trying to move to New York, and was fine with that. But I do believe that everything happens for a reason, and taking the Fresh internship allowed me to learn that visual merchandising was not something that I wanted to pursue. I missed digging deeper into the data and was ecstatic when I was offered the position with Lord & Taylor! My first week was spent with vendors in Market Week across Manhattan. It was a great way for myself to quickly immerse myself in the the category of intimate apparel and shape wear.

I always thought that I wanted to work for Saks Corporate –which stemmed from working at Saks OFF Fifth throughout college. But now their offices are my neighbor! HBC is based out of Brookfield Place in the financial district.  The building has amazing architecture, and is connected to the World Trade Center. Throughout the different sides of the oculus there is Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Saks OFF 5th.

The office is not the stereotypical cubical organization that various offices do have. When I look out my window, I see the ocean, and even Lady Liberty. Everything is very open, white, and full of windows. I love that I do not feel trapped in a boring little square all day long as I did in my internship. The atmosphere is a big part of how enjoyable my day is personally. My position is titled a Merchandise Assistant. Day to day tasks include tracking shipments through purchase orders, tracking when shipments receipt in the DC, vendor communication, advertising, updating the 6 month plan, and pulling reports.

Outside there are docks with some of the most amazing yachts. It’s the perfect lunch spot. Overall seeing buying all come together in the city where fashion happens has been a dream come true ❤️
